Mazda MX-30: what price difference between the 100% electric and the range extender?

While the electric and plug-in hybrid variants of the MX-30 are similarly priced, the bonus makes all the difference in the end!

The Mazda MX-30 now leaves a technical choice. Available for almost three years in a 100% electric version, it now exists in a rechargeable hybrid. Or more precisely with an electric motor associated with a range extender, thanks to a small rotary engine powered by gasoline.

The 100% electric version receives a 145 hp block and a 35.5 kWh battery. It announces a combined WLTP cycle range of 200 km. On the side of the rechargeable hybrid, named R-EV, the electric traction unit displays 170 hp. The battery is reduced to 17.8 kWh, which gives a range of 85 km, sufficient for everyday needs. Then the 50 liters of petrol allow you to do 600 km more.

In the basic Prime Line version (with already generous equipment), the two versions have the same price, €38,250. Adding a range extender balances out with decreasing battery size. But beware. The plug-in hybrid has no bonus, while the electric has a bonus of €5,000. Even with gasoline, autonomy has a price!

And the gap is a little higher with the other common finish, the high-end Makoto. Bonus included, the electric costs 5,500 € less. If the R-EV makes the MX-30 more versatile and less stressful for its drivers, then it comes at a high price.

The finishes and main standard equipment

  • Prime Line : LED headlights, 18-inch rims, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, front/rear parking sensors, reversing camera, blind spot monitoring, autonomous emergency braking, head-up display, auto air conditioning, radio on touchscreen with Apple Car Play and Android Auto.

  • Makoto : Exclusive Line + LED rear lights, adaptive LED headlights, electric sunroof, 360° vision, Bose audio system
