Mercedes: a slight facelift for the plug-in hybrid CLA
ADVERTISEMENT

A little brushstroke on the CLA Coupé and Shooting Brake. In addition to some aesthetic developments, there is something new for the plug-in hybrid engine.

A few months with the Class A and B, it’s the turn of the CLA to be restyled. We speak in the plural because the small four-door coupe from Mercedes is also available in Shooting Brake. Point of surprise: as for the compact and the minivan, the CLAs do not change much!

Outside, it is therefore the game of seven errors! The CLAs now have “High Performance” LED optics as standard, with a new light signature. The grille adopts a pattern with small stars. More visible, the shields have been revised, with a modified design for the air intakes. At the rear, the light signature also changes. For customization, in addition to new rims, the color chart includes two new colors, Hyper Blue and Spectral Blue.

On board, the CLAs have new decorative elements (in dark carbon, open-pore brown linden or brown microfiber). More interesting is the latest generation of the MBUX multimedia system, with refined graphics and above all improved voice control. This is able to better understand indirect orders, actions that can do without the famous “Hey Mercedes”. Result, Mercedes removed the central touchpad, which leaves room for a small storage.

The 250 e plug-in hybrid version benefits from some improvements. There is a 163 hp 1.3 petrol unit coupled to an electric unit whose power increases from 75 to 80 kW. The maximum cumulative power is 218 hp. For recharging, in addition to the standard 3.7 kW, the battery can now be recharged with alternating current up to 11 kW instead of the previous 7.4 kW. CLAs continue to offer the possibility of direct current charging of the battery, up to 22 kW. The battery has a capacity of 15.6 kWh, which gives electric ranges of between 68 and 80 km in the WLTP combined cycle.
