From the 505 to the Inception concept, there is only one step. And vice versa. Auto-Moto therefore took up the subject to restomod the 80’s sedan.
What relationship is there between the youngtimer sedans that rocked the childhood of forties and electric cars? None you tell me. However, in recent years, these two worlds evolving at antipodes have frequently telescoped each other, with more or less success, under the guise of restomod, this trend consisting in retrofitting (converting to electricity) old models, while modernizing certain elements of their bodywork. We remember, for example, Opel which caused a sensation, in 2021, by operating in this way on the basis of its Manta coupe, renamed Elektromod.
A fair return
At Peugeot, the in-house designers have not yet dared to undertake this type of project, despite the success encountered by the e-Legend study, in 2018. Indeed, if the latter indeed paid homage to the 504 coupé, it was purely and simply from the field of concept cars, its plastic not taking up any element of its ancestor. More recently, at the very beginning of the year, the Lion caused a sensation at CES in Las Vegas by lifting the veil on a new show car called Inception, also surfing the neo-retro wave by drawing inspiration from sedan faces. of the 80s, and more particularly of the 505.
Restomod even in the cabin
Auto-Moto therefore jumped at the chance to take the opposite route by restomoding the famous Sochaux with Inception sauce. A fair return of things for this good old 505 which seizes the face sixfold scratched within a grille sporting the new Peugeot coat of arms which one also finds on the front fenders and the hubs of the rims from the 408. the rear, the fifty-year-old obviously ignores its exhaust outlet, being towed by the fairy electricity, while the headband gathering so far the lights and the license plate gives way to the luminous stern of the Inception concept. Finally, we pushed the vice so far as to transform, sparingly, the passenger compartment of this grandma by hitting her steering wheel with the new Lion, as well as replacing her counters with a 3D digital panel. Under the air vents, the controls for the latter are grouped together on a touch screen when, one notch below, the gear lever of contemporary automatic models replaces the original manual control.
