The “baby Jeep” will be offered with four-wheel drive. This version could have a rechargeable hybrid engine.
The Avenger has two particularities: it is the smallest model of Jeep, which therefore goes down in range after the Renegade, and it is the first 100% electric vehicle from the firm. Another element that sets it apart: it is the only vehicle in the range without all-wheel drive.
However, this will not last. Even if the Avenger is boxing in a category where customers aren’t very keen on having four-wheel drive, Jeep wants its youngest to be in line with its values. As soon as the model was presented at the Paris Motor Show, the manufacturer therefore confirmed the launch of a 4X4 variant.
He did it with a show car, pictured here, which has a more adventurous look, with specific shields. The brand had not, however, given any technical element. We then imagined a 100% electric configuration with the addition of a small electrical block at the rear.

But the English media Car Magazine is advancing the track of the rechargeable hybrid. There would thus be a gasoline unit at the front (which will not be new, because there are on some markets where electrification is less advanced a gasoline Avenger) and an electric motor on the rear axle. The battery would logically be greatly reduced in size, while it displays 54 kWh (gross capacity) on the electric variant. It would then be a new configuration on the CMP platform used by the Avenger, that of the Peugeot 2008.
We are also intrigued by the rechargeable side, which increases costs, while the Avenger remains the entry level of Jeep. As a hybrid, the 4×4 would not be entitled to any bonus with us. We would then see a simple hybrid assembly with a small electric block in addition to drive the rear wheels, a system similar to the Toyota Yaris Cross.
The four-wheel-drive Avenger is due to launch in 2024.
