Seat Mo 125 Performance test: the reboosted electric scooter

Seat Mo 125 Performance – This Seat is missing two wheels? It’s normal. Anxious to attract and retain its customers as soon as possible, the Spanish brand is expanding its offer by selling, since 2018, electric scooters.

And since 2020, scooters, marketed in Mexico, Chile and Colombia as well as in Europe. 10,000 units of this rebadged model, developed and also sold by Silencewhich produces it in its Catalan facilities, have already been sold.

For 2023, the machine goes second, with a more vitaminized version, called Performance… which Silence does not benefit from.

In the program, 10 km/h more top speed, better accelerationresized brakes, Pirelli tires and a new rear shock absorber, signed Ohlins, adjustable in compression/rebound and preload.

Yes, but the menu also displays €1,700 more! Or €8,900. And still no ABS, or “hands-free” starting allowing you to start without taking the key out of your pocket. Damage.

This 125 MB Performance brings together a series of developments, but has nothing to do with a metamorphosis. We therefore find a slightly higher driving positiondespite a revised saddle, still firm, and a small lack of space behind the apron.

While some scooters offer multiple potential foot locations, the Mo leaves no choice; shoes have only one place to rest.

The counter, not specially ordered, is however readable and displays all the necessary information, two trips, the total mileage, the battery level or even the driving mode engaged; Eco, City or Sport.

The performances evolve crescendo from the most frugal to the most energetic mode, the intermediate program, limited to 90 km/h, making a good compromise to maintain a good autonomy and a great softness. It is also the only mode with which no regeneration is activated when releasing the throttle.

With the other programs, each deceleration is accompanied by a small “recovery” of energy, accompanied by slight braking. It is moreover, in addition to the large 5.6 kWh capacity batteryone of the points contributing to the great autonomy announced by Seat: up to 133 kilometers.

To hope to approach such a distance between two charges, you should not use the Sport mode, the most mind-blowing, especially if you keep the original windshield, which serves more as decoration than protection.

In Sport, the times are more reminiscent of the large displacement than the 125 equivalent. The instantaneous response and the extension of the acceleration allow you to get out of traffic effortlessly, and with a smile under your helmet.

But to go beyond the 100 km/h counter, you still have to press the Mode button, on the right thumb, and thus engage the eBoost function.

Accessible only above 80 km/h, it leads to a power surplus (11.5 kW, i.e. 15.6 hp in total) from the motor, integrated into the rear wheel, for increase top speed to 105 km/h officially. Or 112 km / h counter on our test MB.

But, there is a but” : this excess energy can only last for thirty seconds, at the end of which you have to wait two minutes to repeat the operation. This device therefore facilitates certain overtaking, but can also prove to be troublesome if the power is cut off during the manoeuvre.

So why not constantly allow this eBoost? To preserve autonomy and do not overheat the battery.

Easy to handle and accommodating, despite a substantial saddle height, the MB remains as stable as it is manageable. Easy to put on the angle, it makes you forget its weight and brakes hard.

The absence of ABS remains a major defectwhich Seat hopes to repair during his career, but the dosage is very easy.

The practical aspects are not forgotten, with in particular a trunk capable of accommodating up to two full-face helmetsa clever saddle for the duo and, above all, a removable battery with very well thought out handling.

What a thick block of 41 kg, which can be recharged directly by plugging in the scooter for 6 to 8 hours, can also be extracted from the left side.

To be, casters extend mechanicallywhile an extractable handle, as on cabin suitcases, allows you to drag the accumulator to your home, without too much effort provided that you take advantage of an elevator.

Relocating this battery does not require labor either; there is never a need to lift this battery which, in the world of 125 electric scooters where the BMW CE 04 sails, allows the Mo to offer the best range/performance/price ratio on the market.

That’s not to say the gear is cheap, especially when compared to thermal equivalents, but it’s a lot.

Seat Mo 125 Performance test: our opinion

His real flaws? Absence of ABS and “hands-free” key. But the Mo Performance, if it generates an additional cost compared to the “normal” Mo 125, arrives with a welcome surplus of power and a convincing autonomy.

WE love

  • Autonomy and performance
  • Trunk volume and compactness
  • Pleasure and convenience

We love less

  • No ABS or “hands-free” starting
  • eBoost mode limited to 30 seconds
  • Foot space and protection
