Fuel prices: the RN again calls for a drop in taxes

This Sunday, Jordan Bardella, president of the National Rally, again called for a reduction in VAT to 5.5% on fuel.

While gasoline prices are soaring again, Jordan Bardella, president of the National Rally, suggests lower fuel taxes. Invited to Europe 1 this Sunday, January 22, he detailed what his party is proposing, especially with regard to VAT :

“For several months now, our purchasing power shield (…) has been on the table. In particular, we had proposed as a solution the reduction of VAT from 20% to 5.5% on all energy, considering that energy is a basic necessity. So fuel, electricity, gas, fuel oil, which are essential goods for the French, we proposed to lower the taxes on this good. »

However, the government’s response was clear, continues the president of the RN. Targeting was preferred to an overall measure:

“The government told us “No, we don’t, because it will benefit everyone. We can make these checks, which are targeted”. Except that in reality, the French concerned never fit into the right boxes. It excludes all this average France, this France of work, this France which works, aid which is put in place by the State. So, we are criticized for an absence of targeting, with a targeting response that affects people who should not meet these criteria. »

A targeting that shows its limits?

The opportunity for Jordan Bardella to come back to the fuel check. The aid of 100 euros intended for motorists with the lowest incomes… was indeed granted ! An error, according to him, which ensures not to have cashed the check. The opportunity for the politician to criticize this measure of the government :

“Obviously the tax authorities made a mistake (…) I’m not going to cash this check. But you can see that this targeting logic has its limits. I think (…) that there is always the side, at home, gas factory, technostructure, bureaucracy. People never fit into the right boxes. »

“When you have a country with 46% compulsory levies, when you have a country where there is 60% fuel tax, the most effective way to restore purchasing power to the French is fiscal peace. Taxes are lowered and, immediately (…) we give back purchasing power to the French. »

“They look like bank branch managers (…) the check has a short-term logic, it does not give back purchasing power to the French. We are proposing a real vision for the country, a real vision for purchasing power. First, fiscal peace, with lower gasoline taxes. »

Remember that the fuel check of 100 euros can be requested since January 16, until February 28. This is an aid to buy fuel for motorists with the lowest incomes.
