The pick-up market is vital for American manufacturers. Faced with the rise in prices caused by the switch to electric, GM is considering a new model, electric but much more affordable.
With Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, Ram, Tesla and Rivian, the pickup market in the United States seems to have firmly committed to an electric transition. And as a result, a nice inflation of average prices is looming. Because if these huge ones have abandoned their V6 or V8 greedy, they have adopted huge batteries. This could lead to the development of the market for compact models.
GM has thus presented to investors and certain media a prototype of an affordable electric pickup. The manufacturer thus evokes a price around 30,000 dollars. Obviously, at this price, there are limitations. The vehicle presented is thus a pick-up with only 2 doors and its rear tipper is just over 1.20 m long. Its design seems rather sporty and dynamic. Is the return of the El Camino on its way?
It is for the moment only a model intended to gauge the reactions of the public. And the team in charge of the project is well aware that the first reaction of the public may be that it is too small, and the choice of platform and final dimensions is not fixed.
With such a model, GM probably hopes to regain the advantage over Ford, which launched the Maverick with good results last year.
