David Belliard, deputy ecologist at the town hall of Paris, in charge in particular of transport, proposes to tax SUVs in Paris to finance the Navigo pass.

SUV owners, tremble! The price of the Navigo pass (allowing you to use public transport in Île-de-France) is increasing. Currently at 84,10 eurosit increased by 10 euros this January 1. And this trend may not stop there.

And the link with SUVs, you are probably wondering? None… until a recent statement by David Belliard, ecologist deputy to the town hall of Paris, in charge in particular of transport. The latter offers tax these vehicles, to defuse the « social bombs », in his words, that represents the increase in the price of the Navigo pass. He detailed his point of view in an interview with 20 Minutes :

“If we do nothing, it is not at 84.10 euros that the Navigo pass will be. It will be at 100, 110, 120 euros. “We are facing a situation of social bomb. It is necessary to “diversify the modes of financing, in particular around ecological and redistributive taxation. “This by taxing” SUVs, (…) particularly in town where they have no use and are very polluting. “The tax on kerosene is also a track. »

The oldest SUVs already doomed to disappear from the streets of Paris

Owners of these vehicles will appreciate knowing that they serve no purpose. Especially since traffic in Paris is already increasingly restricted, with the low emission zone (ZFE) of Greater Paris. The latter aims to prohibit the oldest vehicles, according to the Crit’Air sticker system, from circulating.

As a result, the oldest cars are brought to no longer drive in the streets of the capital in the years to come. What also applies to SUVs. It remains to be seen whether the owners of the remaining vehicles would be willing to accept a new tax.
