How to put music as a ringtone on Android?

Under Android, having a personalized ringtone, for example the song you prefer at a given moment, is relatively easy if you know how to navigate the bowels of this system. Follow the guide.

Android phones come with a whole host of predefined ringtones. And there are many alternative ringtones on the Google Play Store. However, the best is certainly to be able to choose any piece of music that you like as a ringtone. We will see what is the procedure to follow.

Here we have carried out the operation with a OnePlus 7 from the OnePlus brand. Note that the Android system has undergone various evolutions and variations (in particular according to the telephone manufacturers). It could therefore be that certain options are named differently depending on the version of Android used, but you should easily find these options on your device.

1. Connect Android to PC

In this case, we first assume that the desired piece is on an external computer and that we will first have to retrieve this file on the mobile phone. If the song is already on your phone, you can skip to step 3 – change the ringtone via Android settings.

In this case, the first step is to connect the smartphone to a PC via the USB cable. When you do so, a small menu appears at the bottom of the screen. Select the file transfer option.

The very first time, you will see a message asking to confirm this access to the storage memory of the Android smartphone from the PC system. Select “Allow”.

On your PC, if you open the computer icon, you can see that the smartphone is recognized by the PC: it appears in the “Removable Devices” section.

2. Transfer the desired song to the smartphone

The smartphone is recognized by Windows as a hard drive and you can therefore navigate within it from the PC’s operating system. In the “Internal Storage Memory”, locate the “Ringtones” folder and open this folder. This is where you will have to place the song you want to use as a ringtone.

On the disk of your PC, locate the MP3 file corresponding to the desired song and practice a drag and drop to the Ringtones folder of the smartphone.

3. Change Ringtone via Android Settings

In your Android smartphone, open the Settings and scroll down the options until you locate the “Sounds and vibrations” option and open this menu. The ringtone currently in use is indicated under “Ringtone”.

Open the “Ringtone” menu then choose “On this device”. In the “Music” tab, you can locate the chosen song. All you have to do is select it – the circle just opposite should appear colored. The manipulation is complete.

Have someone call you to verify that the operation was successful.

If you are using a fairly old version of Android and the manipulation described here did not seem to work, an alternative could be to download a dedicated application such as RingTone Maker on the Play Store.
