No more big people carriers! The Espace will become an SUV that can accommodate 7 people. It will in fact be the elongated version of the Austral.
In the spring of 2023, Renault will unveil the sixth generation of the Espace. But forget what you know about Space! It will no longer be a minivan. The Diamond brand confirms that it will now be a large SUV.
Renault also explains that “with each generation, the Espace has been able to evolve with the times to better meet customer expectations and fit in with the times”. And fashion is no longer at all to the minivan. Moreover, when designing the fifth generation, launched in 2014, Renault had already asked itself the question of making it a more trendy SUV. In the end, the Espace had remained a minivan, with a touch of crossover in the look. For lovers of backpackers, the Losange had the Koleos on the shelf.
The newcomer will also replace two vehicles at a time, or even three. It will indeed take over from the Koleos and Espace, and more indirectly from the Grand Scénic. It will therefore have a family role and will thus be able to embark 7 people. It is also surely on this element that Renault can justify the name Espace, which was also preferred to Koleos by greater notoriety and longevity which gives it legitimacy. The Espace dynasty will indeed celebrate its 40th anniversary at the end of 2023.
However, this new Espace will not be such a novel vehicle. Because it will actually be an elongated version of the Austral. Renault has thus copied Peugeot’s strategy, whose 5008 is a 7-seater 3008! Thanks to the CMF-CD base, the Espace will finally become a vehicle with electrified engines. We will certainly find the new E-Tech blocks of 160 and 200 hp inaugurated by the Asutral. Then there could be a plug-in offer.
