The number of conversions to superethanol has tripled between 2021 and 2022.
Prices at resorts have reached record highs in 2022 (and unfortunately this is not improving in 2023). Enough to give a big boost to alternative fuels which benefit from much more attractive prices thanks to advantageous taxation, starting with E85.
Proof that superethanol has interested French drivers: its consumption has increased by 83% in 2022! Its market share among gasoline fuel sales rose from 4 to 6.5% in one year.
The advantage of the E85 is that you can quickly adapt your petrol vehicle using a conversion kit. And this is another indicator of the success of superethanol: 85,000 boxes were installed in 2022, three times more than in 2021. The conversion certainly represents an investment (the cost is around €1,000), but it is be made profitable given the difference in price at the pump (bearing in mind that E85 leads to an increase in consumption of around 20%). Profitability is even faster if you take advantage of aid. For example, there is €500 in Ile-de-France.
As for vehicles directly from Flexfuel, the market has also done well, with 35,000 sales in 2022, six times more than in 2021. But the offer remains limited, it is mainly driven by Ford, which sold on its own 30,000 Flexfuel models. This allowed the brand to increase its sales in a sluggish market.
