Because that’s the end of the stories with Citroën, it could well be that the revised and corrected Polestar 2 will enter our territory.
Polestar and France, it’s a story, let’s say, complicated. Since 2019, a conflict opposed it to Citroën, the tricolor manufacturer reproaching the Swedish brand for its logo reminiscent too much according to its chevrons. But, that’s it, both managed to find an agreement at the end of last year. So, obviously, because the former sports department of Volvo has just presented a revised and corrected version of its sedan 2, we say to ourselves that the latter could well (finally!) land on our territory. Several clues, including one concealed in the press release of the restyled Polestar 2 that it has just unveiled, lead us to believe that this could well be the case….
Reasons to believe
Well, logically enough, there is the fact that the quarrel is over, as we have just said, but that is not all. Since it broke out, Polestar sites were simply inaccessible from France. We say “were” because we can now again access the product site but also the one dedicated to the press. This necessarily means that the disagreement is over. Finally, last detail, it is specified in the press release mentioned above that “the Polestar model year 2024 is available to order now on Polestar.com in European markets and that other markets will follow”. An asterisk indicates the countries concerned: Italy and Ireland. But it is not excluded that France will be concerned in the future. After all, Polestar is always expanding, the proof…
An almost unchanged look
But let’s come to the “2” sedan which is still the main subject of the said publication. What is changing? The design, not really. Same light signatures, same shields at the front and rear, nothing changes on the outside, except for the now full grille which is somewhat reminiscent of the “3” SUV. We imagine that we can say just as much about the interior since the manufacturer did not even bother to share the slightest illustration.
Up to 635 km range
In fact, the changes are essentially technical. The Polestar 2 is more powerful, more efficient and has a better autonomy. Another major development, the two-wheel drive models are now rear-wheel drive. These are equipped with a single motor of 200 kW or 220 kW (about 271 hp and 300 hp) and 490 Nm of torque (against 330 Nm previously). The less powerful benefits from a 69 kWh battery (no upgrade), the second from 82 kWh (5 kWh more). In both cases, the range is up: 518 km for the 200 kW version, and downright 635 km for the 220 kW.
As for the integral variant, it benefits from two motors delivering a total of 310 kW (about 421 hp) and 740 Nm of torque (10 kW and 80 Nm more). The performances are obviously excellent. Count only 4.5 s to perform the exercise from 0 to 100 km/h with the 4-wheel drive against 6.4 s and 6.2 s for the first. A performance pack increases the power to 350 kW (475 hp) on the latter. With him, the time drops to 4.2 s. In both cases, the large 82 kWh battery is used. They could both travel 592 km on a single charge. Maximum charging speed of 135 kW for the 69 kWh 2WD version and 205 kW for the others. Attractive features but at a price: between €50,190 and €64,690 in Germany. If Polestar wants to harm the Tesla Model 3 in our market (if it comes of course!), we will have to lower the prices a little…
