At the Retromobile Show, Renault will present a kit to transform its old 4L or R5 thermal into an electric model.
Renault is preparing the return to its range of 4L and R5, which will be 100% electric. But before that, it will already be possible to drive with electric Renault 4 and 5, thanks to the retrofit. After having put a wheel on this market via its utilities, the Losange offers a conversion for its vintage models.
Renault has joined forces with R-fit, the commercial brand of MCC Automotive, presented as the “pioneer and expert in electric conversion kits approved in France for vintage vehicles”. R-fit will take care of the aftermarket sales for the kit. Renault indicates that the conversion has successfully passed the various approval tests at UTAC.
The Renault 4 will be affected from February 1. Then it will be the turn of the 5, in September. Finally, the conversion kit will be available with the first generation of the Twingo. The three retrofitted models will be exhibited at the Salon Rétromobile in Paris (February 1-5).
The retrofit consists of removing the heat engine and the tank, replacing them with an electric motor and a battery. This thus makes it possible to prolong the life of the vehicle… and opens up access to ZFEs! The owner has homologation and registration certificates indicating the type of energy electricity (EL) instead of gasoline (ES).
For the 4L, we have a synchronous Brushless type motor and a 10.7 kWh (105V) lithium iron phosphate battery. The autonomy is about 80 km. Recharging is done via a 16A-220V household socket in around 3h30. The original mechanical transmission is retained. The installation respects the balance of the starting masses.
For the 4L, the price of the kit with the installation is 11,900 €. But there are aids to lower the note, with a premium paid by the State which varies from 2,500 to 6,000 € according to the reference tax income (which must be under 22,984 €).
