Tesla has announced a $3.6 billion investment for its US plant in Nevada.
Tesla’s first gigafactory will be even bigger. The manufacturer has announced a colossal investment for its site in Nevada (United States). The brand will spend 3.6 billion dollars to expand it. This is more than the initial investment for the construction of the plant, which had cost 3.5 billion dollars.
Two new factories will be created: one will be dedicated to the production of 4680 cells for batteries, with a capacity of 100 GWh. The objective is to cover the needs of 1.5 million light vehicles per year. The second factory will be dedicated to the large-scale production of the Semi, the brand’s heavyweight, the first units of which were finally delivered three years late. These were produced in Nevada. Tesla hopes to produce 50,000 Semis in 2024.
To ensure these productions, the manufacturer intends to recruit 3,000 more people. Since the start of the project in Nevada, the brand says it has directly hired more than 11,000 people.
In 2022, the brand sold 1.3 million vehicles worldwide, an increase of 40% compared to 2021. With this investment, it shows that it does not intend to stop there.
