The vehicle that was assembled the most in France in 2022 is the Toyota Yaris Cross, a hybrid-only urban SUV here.
The most produced car in France is not a car from a French brand. It is a Toyota. But we are starting to get used to it, because it has already happened many times to see the Yaris at the top of this ranking produced by the firm Inovev. However, this time it’s not the Yaris the champion, but the Yaris Cross, its SUV version.
Toyota has assembled 159,166 units at its plant near Valenciennes. This is the only one that produces this model. To make room for it, the brand has relocated much of the production of the classic Yaris to its Kolin site in the Czech Republic. But classic Yaris are still being assembled in the North.
Moreover, Toyota retains the lead in this ranking even though its Valenciennes plant is no longer “mono-product”, which has helped it to outstrip the French models produced in France. French manufacturers continue to produce more than Toyota in France, but with a wide variety of models.
Almost all production of the Yaris Cross is done with hybrid engines (2 or 4 wheel drive). In many markets, this model is only offered as a hybrid. There is a version without hybridization, but it only represented 5% of sales in Europe in 2022.
It should be noted, however, that the Yaris Cross was slightly ahead of the Peugeot 3008, of which 156,166 units were assembled in France. And this model has experienced a marked downturn, due to the approaching end of its career. The new generation of the 3008 should be presented during 2023.
