In 2030, the entire Peugeot range will be electric. The new family will be inspired by the Inception concept car.
During a press conference, Peugeot presented what it called the “E-Lion project”, its strategy as an electric brand. The timetable for the firm’s electric transition was already known, however: to offer an electric version of all models by 2025 and to sell only electric cars in Europe in 2030.
This transition aspect can be found in the product plan. In 2023, it mixes already known models that will be electrified and completely new models. The big difference? The first, which are the e-308, e-308 SW and e-408, do not have a platform optimized for electric. As a result, the compact is content with a 54 kWh battery and announces a range of around 400 km, which is fair for a family vehicle.
But in the second group, everything changes for the technique. The next electric Peugeots will indeed be based on one of four new platforms dedicated to electrics, which will be used by all Stellantis brands. And it is the new generation of the 3008 which will have the honor of inaugurating the first ready base, the SLTA Medium. Proof of the leap forward that this represents: Peugeot announces that the range will go up to 700 km!
At Peugeot, we will find the SLTA Medium for the compact models (the e-3008 will be quickly followed by an e-5008), then there will be the urban models below on STLA Small then above the large models on STLA Large . Stellantis mentioned ranges of up to 500 km for the “Small” and 800 km for the “Large”.
These platforms will give designers “more flexibility and freedom to reinvent proportions”. At Peugeot, this will be accompanied by a new aesthetic language, which was announced by the Inception concept. The e-3008 will not be allowed there, because it was designed long before the Inception.
Peugeot Inception Concept: the revival of electric lionesses announced at CES 2023
During its conference, Peugeot showed a taste of its future product family whose look will be inspired by the Inception concept. We see seven silhouettes, which take up the new headlights-grille assembly shown by the concept.
We guess on the right three SUVs, which evoke the continuation of the 2008, 3008 and 5008. On the left, we first think of the continuation of the 208 and 308. Then there is at the end what seems to be a sedan, proof that the gender is not forgotten. Remains the central silhouette, close to that of the Inception concept.
The first production model with an Inception-style look will be ready in 2025. It is in 2026 that a model will be entitled to the new version of the I-cockpit, also announced by the concept car. The latter had a rectangular steering wheel incorporating a screen and four control modules in the corners.
These future Peugeots will not only be greener through their motorization, they will also be greener through their design. The brand will thus abandon chrome, which will be replaced by glass and light effects. The wheels will be recycled alloy. On board, there will also be recycled materials and raw-looking elements, as well as lightweight seats. the idea is to reduce the weight of the vehicles, to make them more efficient.
