Peugeot lifts the veil on its future electrified range

Peugeot lifts the veil on its future electrified range

And if Peugeot aspired to become the French Tesla? This is the impression given by its future 100% electric product plan, just unveiled.

The electrification of Peugeot will accelerate in the coming months, as Peugeot has just announced during a digital event also evoking the longer-term strategy, with no less than five electric models which will be launched within two years. Peugeot has also lifted the veil on the after 2024 which will see the style of the Inception concept car extend to the entire catalog.

The honor went to Linda Jackson, at the end of January, to unveil the E-Lion project which is planned until the end of the decade to develop the electrification of Peugeot, according to three deadlines:

• 2023: All models in the PEUGEOT range will be electrified,
• 2025: PEUGEOT will offer a 100% ELECTRIC range,
• 2030: 100% OF PEUGEOT SOLD IN EUROPE WILL BE 100% ELECTRIC.

Electrified does not necessarily mean 100% electric. When Peugeot promises a fully electrified range from 2023, this includes slightly hybrid thermal engines, at 48V. For this, a new PureTech block will be used in the coming months, with a power of 136 hp, which we had already heard. But we learn that it will also be available in 100 hp in order to democratize the genre. These two engines will be mated to an unprecedented 6-speed electrified dual-clutch gearbox, called E-DCS6, integrating a 21 kW electric motor. Thanks to a battery that recharges while driving, this technology offers increased low-end torque and a 15% reduction in fuel consumption (from 126g of CO2/km in 3008). In urban driving, a C-segment SUV equipped with this hybrid system promises to operate more than 50% of the time in 100% electric mode.

Mild-hybrid… almost for everyone

If Peugeot evokes the arrival of this electrified duo on 208, 2008, 308, 408, 3008 and 5008, the 508 sedan and the Rifter MPV are missing. Two models which will however be restyled in a very short time. Therefore, should we conclude that the manufacturer is only considering rechargeable hybridization for the future 508 range? And what about Rifter, offered only in 100% electric to date, and which we hoped to be eligible for thermal blocks again, thanks to 48V? The vagueness remains on this subject.

An electric 3008 from 2023

Regarding total electrification, Peugeot says a little more about the next generation of 3008 which will therefore be available in e-3008, for the first time, when it is revealed in the second half of 2023. Three 100% electric engines will be available to it. allocated and therefore three power levels among which could culminate a powertrain of 300 hp, according to the noises of corridors. On the other hand, it is official, the autonomy will be able to reach up to 700 km, a very impressive value for a general vehicle. But it is probably an urban WLTP homologation measure. Finally, we learn that an e-5008 is also scheduled, but probably for 2024, or even 2025.

A sedan in the pipes

With regard to the longer term, the Sochaux firm has presented seven silhouettes which will form the future range, by 2030. We discover a profile similar to a city car, and therefore to the future 208, but above all SUV morphologies (future 2008, 3008 and 5008). But the good news comes above all from the promise of the return of a sedan, obviously 100% electric. This would somehow materialize the Inception concept car to oppose the Tesla Model 3, before 2030.

Cars made to last

Finally, beyond this ambitious product plan, Peugeot affirms its commitment to safeguarding the planet by reconsidering the life cycle of its models, according to four pillars:

– Lifetime – the structure of the vehicle offering a lifespan of 25 years, developed from Stellantis platforms and solutions.
– Reuse – refurbishment and recycling of essential parts, including the use of recycled parts .
– Upgrade – refresh the main wear parts of the car (upholstery/trim) as featured in the Inception concept, to make the car feel like new every time it changes hands.
– On demand – regular “Over the Air” update of systems and software to keep a vehicle attractive, like the annual update of a smartphone.
