Geely is not by far the most advanced Chinese manufacturer in terms of developing its electric range. He now intends to work twice as hard to catch up and announces a new range of vehicles. But it is still unclear which brand will benefit from it.
Geely is one of the best-known Chinese manufacturers on the international scene. In China, it was for several years the leading Chinese brand on the market. But he was overtaken by BYD in 2022 in a spectacular way (imagine the Dupondt’s Jeep doubled by the Emir’s Lancia Aprilia in Tintin in the land of black gold…). It is that despite its multitude of models, Geely is not the most advanced in the field of electricity. In fact, the Geely brand itself does not offer any specifically electric model, only adaptations of thermal vehicles. Same at Lynk&Co, Livan. Worse, the brand dedicated to electric Geometry only offers models, too, derived from Geely thermal models… Among the group’s Chinese brands, only Zeekr offers a modern electric model based on a dedicated platform.
The situation is therefore urgent for Geely, which is announcing a new range of electric vehicles. New range or new brand. The question remains unanswered for the moment as we know Geely has a tendency to create brands at all costs. Its current portfolio thus includes Geely, Geometry, Livan, Zeekr, Lynk&Co, Smart, Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, Proton, LEVC, Farizon, Radar, plus Jidu in partnership with Baidu, Benelli in 2 wheels…
The first model of this new range will be presented at the Shanghai Motor Show next April. The few illustrations seem to indicate that it will still be a concept, with its antagonistic doors. This large sedan, which would be based on the SEA platform, adopts a new angular rear light signature, and there are also light triangles on the wheels.
