It’s a turning point for Ford. After almost thirty years of good and loyal service, the Mondeo is about to take a well-deserved retirement. Launched in 2014, the fourth generation of the American sedan will indeed bow out for good next year, as the brand announced a few months ago. Because we have to face the facts, this type of bodywork appeals less and less to customers, now more attracted by SUVs and raised models in general. But there is no question therefore for the mark with the blue oval to leave a gap in the range, on the contrary. And now, even before its departure, the sedan has already found its replacement, a little more in tune with the times, just unveiled on the occasion of the shanghai show, which has just opened its doors. Called Evos, this new arrival in the range will therefore take the place of the Mondeo, and follows the eponymous concept unveiled in 2011 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
More crossover than outright SUV, this new Ford Evos adopts all the aesthetic codes in vogue at the present time. Adopting an elevated sedan silhouette which is reminiscent of the new Citroën C5 X, this newcomer to the range is therefore one of the first representatives of a new category of vehicles, still quite confidential for the moment. The most observant will immediately notice a certain link with the Ford Mustang Mach-E, both in terms of the lights and the grille, although the two models have their own unique identities. We will indeed notice the original light signature, which gives a certain presence to the car, as well as the air intakes at the level of the shield. On board, the presentation is unsurprisingly very modern, the SUV offering a digital panel 1.10 meters wide, consisting of a 12.3-inch digital handset, as well as a 27-inch 4K touchscreen. No physical controls are then present in the passenger compartment, while all the functions can be controlled using a voice assistant.
Arrival next year
For the moment, Ford has not wanted to be too talkative about its new Evos, and therefore has not given any indication on its technical sheet, while the brand has not yet even wished to show the rear part of the ‘auto. Undoubtedly so as not to give any indications as to the possibility of a electric motor ? Who knows. But anyway, it will therefore be necessary to be patient to find out more about this leggy model, which should shake up the segment somewhat, bringing a little wind of fresh air to a market given by pure SUVs and hard. Either way, a special launch series would be planned, featuring specific orange elements like on the first official images.
If this Ford Evos will first be sold in China, it will indeed arrive in Europe, in the course of the year 2022, then coinciding with the retirement of the Mondeo.
