Yes, the Ateca stayed up to date…
It is a well-born model. Rather elegant. Competitive. The Ateca, in its infancy, opposed frontally, with fine arguments, the Peugeot 3008 and Renault Kadjar, as well as the old Kia Sportage, Nissan Qashqai or Hyundai Tucson.
The fashion for SUVs had already started and Spanish, produced in the Czech Republicshone by its size/habitability ratio, by its complete equipment and by its road services.
Almost seven years later, his qualities have not gone away.
The road handling of the Ateca remains one of its strengths, with a rather incisive direction, an almost irreproachable handling and a relative firmness of the suspension, which serves the impression of dynamism.
On the equipment side, this Seat has evolved over the course of its career, during the 2020 restyling, by improving its technological endowment to stay up to date.
Son connected multimedia systemtaken from other models of the Volkswagen group, allows for example to consult remotely, via a smartphone app, the geographical position of the vehicle, the contents of the tank and the driving data, or to act on the locking /unlocking the openings.
The overall presentation has not changed, but we can see a good thing: the machine has retained wheels and physical buttons, under the 9.2-inch touchscreen, which benefit the ergonomics.
Seat also offers a digital instrumentation system configurable, which also improves the “techno” aspect of its SUV.
An update has also been made in terms of safety: in addition to everything expected of an SUV in this segment, the Ateca alerts its driver of the possible arrival of a cyclist or a car when pulling out of a parking lot.
More conventional criteria such as the habitability and the trunk are not left out. Despite only 4.38 meters long, this model offers plenty of space for passengers seated in the back.
The trunk displays 510 liters of capacity. Finally, on the mechanical side, the Spanish sold 38,166 units in France since its appearance (volume stopped at the end of October 2022) has the good taste to be available in gasoline and, for large wheels, with of 115 and 150 ch diesel envelopes.
The most powerful, systematically associated with the “automated” DSG7 transmission, can also enjoy4Drive all-wheel drive (+ 2 600 €).
No, Spanish is starting to tire…
The Ateca’s advanced age doesn’t seem obvious at first glance. Its facies redesigned in 2020, largely inspired by Tarraco, is a perfect illusion.

But it is when compared to its many competitors, including Citroën C5 Aircross, Hyundai Tucson, Nissan Qashqai, Kia Sportage and many others, all more modern, that the Seat is marking time.
The French, for example, are much more comfortable, while the Koreans and Japanese benefit from hybrid or plug-in hybrid engines, which appeal to corporate fleets.
The Ateca, meanwhile, ignores “electrified” mechanics.
The evolution of the multimedia system, since the restyling, has also generated more complexity. The interface is not really intuitive, and some rivals do much better.
Finally, on board, the modularity comes down to simple 2/3-1/3 folding files, while the soundproofing shows some shortcomings: the TDI engines are a little noisy in town and at low speeds.
WE love
- Presentation and equipment
- Road services
- Size/habitability ratio
We love less
- Slightly loud diesels
- No hybridization
- Interface ergonomics
