To present its strategy in the decades to come, Nissan unveiled four concepts including the electric crossover that will replace the Leaf.
Rather well off on the path to electrification with a Leaf released very early compared to other manufacturers, Nissan now seems to be skating. The manufacturer is only preparing to market its large Ariya SUV, more than a year after its presentation, while the second-generation Leaf does not seem to be unleashing the crowds. To get back into the race, the Japanese are counting on the arrival of new products, as he announced in his strategic plan called Ambition 2030.
23 electrified vehicles by 2030
The strategy displayed by Nissan therefore seems ambitious, since the manufacturer hopes to market 23 electrified vehicles (including e-Power hybrids), including 15 new 100% electric models by 2030. Globally, he hopes to reach over 50% of electrified Nissan and Infiniti among the sales mix. In Europe, Nissan wants to increase its share of sales of electrified models to more than 75% by 2026.
Nissan took advantage of the presentation of its strategic plan to unveil four unexpected concepts. The most concrete is called Chill-Out, and gives an idea of the vehicle that will replace the Leaf in the coming years, potentially by 2025. The concept is an electric crossover based on the CMF-EV platform. It adopts a very smooth design, with a Citroën C5 X raised sedan look or a Polestar 2. Perched on large wheels, the Study has a large closed grille, extended on either side by horizontally striped headlights. The vehicle is entitled to e-4ORCE all-wheel drive.
Four concepts presented for the occasion
The other three concepts are more nebulous, and may never happen in series. The Japanese manufacturer thus presents a new roadster, the Max-Out, supposedly very light and designed to have a very low center of gravity for better driving sensations. For off-piste enthusiasts, the Surf-Out pick-up concept is more appropriate. With its electric motor and advanced e-4ORCE all-wheel drive, the model could offer good off-road performance depending on the brand. Finally, the Hang-Out concept is reminiscent of the Mini Urbanaut, with a cubic MPV look opting for wheels at all four corners. This frees up space on board to take passengers, who are entitled to swivel chairs and a very flat floor. In the photos, the vehicle even turns into a mobile movie theater!
