A new study specially commissioned by Auto Moto and carried out by the firm Marketing Insight shows that more than one in two French people still do not know what a ZFE is…
The polls follow and look alike. And because this is a particularly hot topic, we simply asked a company, Marketing Insight in this case, to conduct a study on EPZs in order to find out the point of view of the French vis- vis-à-vis this still relatively recent device. The results of this exclusive survey, carried out from January 16 to 25, 2023 with a panel of 1,000 respondents, are clear and unsurprising: more than half of French people still do not know what it is…
There is an urgent need to communicate on this subject
This is worrying insofar as there are already 11 ZFE (ZFE-m in its long form, for “Zones with low mobility emissions”) on the metropolitan territory. If you plan to go to Grenoble, Lyon, Montpellier, Nice, Paris, Reims, Rouen, Toulouse, Saint-Etienne, Strasbourg or the Aix-en-Provence region and Marseille, you must first ensure that your vehicle is authorized. He must carry the correct Crit’Air sticker.
This stems from an excellent intention, namely to improve the air quality of our large cities. The concern, however, is that from one metropolis to another, it is not the same vehicles that are banned (unclassified, Crit’Air 4 or 5, VUL or VP, etc.). Because yes, they have the possibility of setting up a calendar of prohibition of their own. Difficult to find it then.
In addition, if there are currently only 11 across the territory, the Climate and Resilience Law dating from 2021 means that they will multiply by 2025. Derogations will allow certain cities to pass through the cracks, but we should count a good thirty. In fact, it is almost certain that there will be an EPZ near you.
15% of respondents willing to risk the offense
To evolve in the ZFE, it is better to opt for a preferably electrified vehicle (100% electric, the grail, but also hybrid or rechargeable hybrid), with alternative energy (LPG, it is better, or, a little less interesting, E85 ) or gasoline in a pinch but recent, registered after 2011, in order to be able to use it as long as possible. You still have to be able to afford it. According to the calculations of motorist associations, nearly 40% of the existing fleet could be banned from driving in these areas within a few years. Hence this other figure that can be discovered in the study and which may surprise: nearly 15% of respondents declared that they “will risk the offense with their non-compliant vehicle”.
