A few days after the death of Virgil Abloh, talented artistic director of Louis Vuitton and founder of the off White brand, Mercedes presents the fruit of their recent collaboration: Project MAYBACH.
“In accordance with the wishes of Virgil’s family, Mercedes-Benz has the honor to unveil Project MAYBACH” announces the brand’s statement to the star. The artist and designer of everything had recently collaborated with the German car manufacturer to design an elegant and sophisticated concept. The vehicle will be on display until December 2 at Rubell Museum à Miami, for a short exhibition reserved exclusively for students of local design schools.
The luxury adventurer
Created in collaboration with Gorden Wagener, designer and style director at Mercedes, this style study was designed from a blank page by compiling the visual elements specific to future star-struck electric cars. Result, the Project MAYBACH is similar to a 2-door SUV almost 6 meters long, very “adventurer-chic”. We of course find the aesthetic codes of the German manufacturer with in particular the large grille or the round front lights. evoking the Class G.
Two occupants can take place in its neat interior where noble materials reign supreme. A very bright interior thanks to a huge bay window which extends in one piece from the front hood to the trunk spoiler at the rear.
This vision of the future of environmentally friendly expeditions into the countryside is logically driven by a 100% electric motor, the technical characteristics of which have not been specified. We know, however, that the concept has photovoltaic panels to increase its autonomy. In reality, it doesn’t matter. This style study has no vocation when entering production, according to Mercedes. It nevertheless represents an exploration of a nouveau design « Outdoor Adventure » which could presage future projects within the luxury division of Maybach in the world of SUVs, alongside the already existing GLS.
