Renault will present a new Espace in the spring. This time it will be a family SUV, available as a hybrid.
No, Space is not going to disappear. While Le Parisien mentions in the headlines a stoppage of the model, it will remain in Renault’s catalog. But it is true that it will change formula. From a large minivan, the Espace will move on to a large SUV. A necessary evolution, the monospace being no longer fashionable.
Renault therefore wanted to keep the name for its future family SUV, preferring to abandon Koleos. The brand is thus betting on a better known appellation, which will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2023.
This will therefore be the sixth generation of Space. This will be unveiled in the spring of 2023. The Losange gives a foretaste of it, with a silhouette plunged into semi-darkness. But we already know a good part of the style of the vehicle. This Space will in fact be an elongated version of the Austral, the model which has just replaced the Kadjar.
Renault announces a length of 4.73 meters, 22 centimeters longer than the Austral. A few centimeters should benefit the wheelbase, in order to avoid a backpack effect for the rear. The marked shoulders bring a little muscle to the silhouette.
The rear will be more vertical, to make room for third-row passengers. To honor his surname, this SUV will indeed be able to carry 7 people. It will thus be Renault’s first SUV with such a possibility. If this vehicle will be 14 centimeters shorter than the Espace number 5, Renault promises “a longitudinal habitability of 2.48 m up to the third row, a rating slightly higher than the current generation”. We hope that the modularity will be evolved.
This Espace will be built on the CMF-CD platform of the Renault-Nissan Alliance. Logically, we will find the technical offer of the Austral, with therefore simple hybrid E-Tech engines of 160 and 200 hp.
