Which of the ten finalists selected by the competition jury will be crowned World Car of the Year 2023? Response in just under two months.
If, at home, in Europe, the election of the Car of the Year is always eagerly awaited, there is another award, even more prestigious, that of the World Car of the Year (“World Car Of The Year” in the language of Shakespeare). Who will succeed the Hyundai Ioniq 5 in 2023, title holder in 2022? Answer next April at the opening of the New York Auto Show. The list of 10 contenders is known recently.
Models that we all know, with one exception
And while we could have imagined that most of these models are simply unknown to us, because they are not distributed to us, it is not the case in fact. It’s simple, except for one model, the very nice 400Z coupe from Nissan, they all are. Some brands are rather well represented, this is the case of BMW which highlights two of its models: the latest 2 Series Coupé as well as the new iteration of its compact SUV, the X1. Or even Nissan which, in addition to the worthy heiress of the “Z” line, sees the Ariya land in the final.

Other in-game titles
If the title of World Car of the Year is the grail, the ultimate coronation, others are at stake. Thus, the jury made up of 100 automotive journalists from 32 countries will also have to elect the electric car of the year. The finalists are BMW i7, Genesis GV60, Hyundai Ioniq 6, Kia Niro EV and Lucid Air. It will also be necessary to determine the luxury car of 2023. The BMW 7 Series and the Lucid Air are still part of the shortlist, but there is also a jumble of the Genesis G90, the new Range Rover and its Sport version. The price list is still long. We will have the opportunity to come back to it when the final results are known.
