A true Hyundai best-seller for years, the Tucson in its fourth iteration was the best-selling compact SUV in Europe in 2022. A success that can be explained by a wide range of engines, especially in the hybrid, and also by the presence of security guarantees that others do not have in this segment.
This is Europe’s best-selling compact SUV. It’s not a European brand, but a Korean one, and it’s Hyundai’s Tucson that occupies the first step of the podium. According to figures compiled by JATO Dynamics, Tucson topped sales in the European compact SUV segment in 2022, with 150,803 units registered. This is quite surprising, since on a rather sluggish European new vehicle market, the Tucson saw its sales increase by 1%. It even became the eighth best-selling vehicle in Europe.
It must be said that after nearly 20 years on the road, the Tucson has benefited from a long experience to affirm its reliability and the progressive and regular integration of customer-centric technologies. It was in Spain that the compact SUV was a hit, remaining at the top of sales in 2022, all brands combined, with 21,985 units sold in cumulative figures. A performance due above all to its high-tech equipment, its avant-garde design and its wide range of engines. In the United Kingdom, Hyundai achieved its highest ever market share in 2022 (5.0%), with 80,419 new vehicles registered over 12 months. It became the most popular mid-size SUV with UK customers.
Champion in France
As for France, when it arrived in the territory in 2020, the compact SUV totaled nearly 1,080 registrations. Hyundai then had a market share of 0.4% in this segment. Two years later, 18,000 Tucsons were registered. This helped Hyundai achieve a record 6% market share in the compact SUV segment. Regarding the engines, here again Tucson is a full house, since it is placed in France in the top 5 of sales in the segment of compact hybrid SUVs (HEV) or rechargeable hybrids (PHEV). This fourth generation of the Tucson raises the bar on the SUV segment, with as a highlight, in addition to a design that is unanimously, a safety package focused on the family and hard to match. The brand has also obtained five stars, that is to say the maximum by Euro NCAP, the European body for evaluating the safety of new vehicles. The Tucson is available in petrol and diesel versions with the 48V mild hybrid system as well as hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions.
