Genesis has just started production of its third electric model, the GV70 EV SUV. Produced in Alabama, it is the first electric car from the Hyundai group produced on American soil, before the opening of a new dedicated factory.
After the GV60 and G70 EV, Genesis is preparing to launch the electric version of the GV70 on the market. The priority of this model is North America, while the GV60 is more thought to launch the brand in Europe. With the Inflation Reduction Act which imposes the local production of the vehicle and its battery to obtain aid for the purchase, Genesis has chosen to produce this model on American soil.
The first copies therefore leave the Hyundai factory in Alabama, while the gasoline versions are still assembled in South Korea. This GV70 EV is thus not only the very first Genesis, but also the first electric car from the Hyundai group, produced in the United States.
First, but certainly not the last. Hyundai announced last October the establishment of a new factory dedicated to electric vehicles in the state of Georgia. Work is due to begin soon, and production will begin in 2025, with a capacity of 300,000 cars per year. Rare for the Korean group, this plant will produce vehicles for Hyundai and Genesis, but also for the partner Kia. This assembly plant will also be complemented by a battery production plant, set up nearby in cooperation with SK On.
