The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is currently taking place in Barcelona, and it’s an opportunity for smartphone manufacturers to unveil their new models as well as the technologies still in development. Motorola took the opportunity to demonstrate a roll-up screen smartphone concept, dubbed Motorola Rizr.
The device has a 6.5-inch POLED display in 22:9 format. The lower part of the screen rolls back to leave only a 5-inch screen in 15:9 format, easier to put in your pocket. When rolled up, the rear part creates a second small display, which allows you to see notifications or even use the main camera for selfies. It can run on command, with a double-press of the power button, or automatically when playing a video or writing an email.

This model has a 3000 mAh battery and weighs 210 grams, but it is only a concept. According to the website Android Authority, who was there, the builder does not let anyone touch it. This probably means that the device is still too fragile. It remains to be seen if Motorola will continue to develop it and find a solution to make it more robust without weighing it down, or if it’s just a concept that will lead nowhere.
