Electric Renault Megane: here's why its base price increases by another 3,000 euros

The access version of the Megane disappeared from the catalog. So only the large 60 kWh battery remains.

During the presentation of Renault’s financial results, Luca de Meo, CEO, confirmed that the brand did not intend to respond to the price war launched by Tesla. Clearly, there is no question of lowering the prices of the electric Megane. On the contrary, it becomes even less affordable!

We have indeed noted on the Renault site that the basic price displayed has gone from 42,000 to 44,000 € on March 1st. But looking at the configurator, we understood why. Renault has removed from the catalog the variant with the small battery, that of 40 kWh.

If we put aside the Evolution ER model, more cut out for the pros, the range is therefore further simplified, with a single technical configuration of 220 hp and 60 kWh battery (only the ER therefore keeps the 130 hp block, with battery 60 kWh). For all finishes, the customer has the choice between two types of charging: super charging with AC 7 kW and DC 130 kW or boost charging with AC 22 kW and DC 130 kW.

The removal of the basic version has several reasons. Already, it was little chosen, since Luca de Meo had announced 80% of orders with the 60 kWh model. This offers 450 km of range in the WLTP combined cycle, against 300 km for the 40 kWh.

Then, Renault obviously wanted to breathe new life into the Zoé, which is experiencing a complicated end to its career. The 40 kWh version of the Megane started at €39,000, while the city car starts at €35,100. With certainly more autonomy (395 km), but less equipment and a less flattering presentation. It would still perhaps have been necessary to lower the price of the Zoé!

If the price of the versions still in the catalog does not drop, Renault has decided to make a few gifts: a loyalty bonus for those who replace their Zoé with the Megane (€25 per month) as well as a good boost on the recharging for those who take a supercharged model, with the charging station and installation offered (up to a limit of €1,900).
