We can be competitors and also be fair. The boss of LI Auto proves it by saying, once again, all the good things he thinks of Nio. And in particular its battery exchange system. A way to prepare for the arrival of 100% electric models in its range?
LI Auto has chosen the range extender for its brand’s vehicles. A choice that seems rather promising, since it is to date the most valued Chinese automotive start-up on the stock market. Its valuation thus exceeds 25 billion dollars, against just under 15 billion for Nio and 7.6 billion for Xpeng.
But LI Auto is preparing a new range of vehicles that will no longer have a petrol engine as a backup. It is perhaps under the light of this future development that we should see the recent declarations of Li Xiang, founder and boss of Leading Ideal, often called Lixiang Auto in China.
He thus considered that the solution of the battery exchange, of which Nio is the main, but not the only, defender, was a solution for the future. It lowers the price of electric cars by selling them without batteries. Remember that he was one of the first to financially support Nio before launching his own brand. But while the first electric Leading Ideals are expected, let’s also remember that Nio has always declared that it wants to open up its battery exchange technology and its stations to other manufacturers…
So could the next electric LIs adopt battery swapping? And in particular that of Nio?
