Europe has banned the sale of thermal engine cars for 2035. But despite this decision, Germany would like there to be an exception. The European Parliament had also left a door open on this subject.
The German Minister of Transport thus appeals to the reflection of his counterparts on this point. According to him, e-fuels could help reduce transport emissions in the future. They could thus be relevant to better organize the energy transition.
Indeed, one can imagine authorizing the sale of synthetic fuel cars after 2035. Thus, this will promote their development, and it would then be possible to adapt them to older vehicles. This could therefore contribute to reducing emissions from the existing vehicle fleet.
” The Commission [européenne] should come up with a proposal on how synthetic fuels can be used or how combustion engines running on climate-neutral fuels can be organised” said Minister Thomas Theurer.
Their manufacture making it possible to capture CO2, they would also help to reduce the balance of fuel production. It remains to be seen whether Europe, which has decided to dive into the electric car, will want to open up to this idea.
