The restyled 508 paved the way for faces adorned with three claws under each lens, at Peugeot. After which the 208 will be the next to curl its eyelashes. What developments should we expect?
Before the summer, we will be fixed on the morphology that the Peugeot 208 will adopt, then arriving at mid-life, four years after the launch of the current generation. But we already know that the smallest representative of the Sochaux manufacturer will be more feline, like recent in-house productions. Exit the long luminous fangs which, for the moment, act as brackets to its grille. The newcomer will exchange them for two trios of light claws probably integrated into the main optics, in an L shape, in order to reduce the number of lighting parts. This new look will seem to be one with a grille with a more complex pattern fading on either side of the bow which, at its top, will host a 208 monogram in a more dynamic font, in italics.
A little character
This will also be found at the foot of the rear trunk whose changes will focus on the smoked band that surrounds it. In its center, the latter will give up the chrome lettering identifying the brand against a new typography cast in the mass, while the Lion enthroned so far under the windshield wiper will disappear definitively. The animal will have migrated to the hubs of the redesigned rims on occasion, but probably not on the front fenders, unlike the recent 308 and 408. Indeed, this gimmick was surprisingly not carried over to the restyled 508, perhaps be for the sake of line relief.
The current will flow more
Developments are also expected under the hood with the arrival of a new 48V micro-hybrid PureTech petrol unit which will develop 100 and 136 hp, depending on the version. In addition, the new generation electric motor will increase its power to 156 hp, against 136 hp to date, when the battery will change its chemistry in order to easily pass the 400 km WLTP range. Finally, the passenger compartment will see its atmospheres revisited, in the absence of a stylistic revolution. Note however that the driver’s airbag will be struck with the new house coat of arms, and that the multimedia environment will be updated for better responsiveness and to reinforce the intuitive character.
Price Peugeot 208 restyled
The new restyled Peugeot 208 should take its first steps in the course of the summer of 2023, before a probable marketing at the start of the school year, at a price which should unfortunately increase once again to around 20,000 € at entry level, as predicted by the galloping inflation of recent years.
