Finally, Mitsubishi will launch the Outlander PHEV in Europe from 2024!

Finally, Mitsubishi will launch the Outlander PHEV in Europe from 2024!

After announcing that its new Outlander PHEV would not be sold in Europe, Mitsubishi is reversing its decision by announcing its arrival in 2024.

Turnaround for Mitsubishi in a few months. While the brand announced in 2020 that it was leaving Europe and that it would not import the new Outlander PHEV there, it is ultimately the complete opposite that is happening.

The three-diamond manufacturer is indeed returning to the Old Continent this year thanks to its participation in the Renault-Nissan Alliance, by selling rebadged Renault Captur and Clio: the Mitsubishi ASX (just marketed) and Colt (fall 2023). And more than that, it will offer from 2024 a version adapted to the European market of its new Outlander PHEV.

Over 200,000 old Outlander PHEVs sold

The previous generation of the plug-in hybrid SUV was a hit with us. In Europe, the third generation (from 2013) sold nearly 200,000 units in PHEV, against around 130,000 units in internal combustion. In total, Mitsubishi has sold 513,734 Outlanders since the first generation in 2003. It would therefore have been a shame to miss good sales on our market with this new, even more successful generation.

The fourth generation of the Outlander, already sold in other markets, improves on the brand’s first-generation plug-in hybrid powertrain seen on the old Outlander and the Eclipse Cross. The new plug-in hybrid Outlander will thus benefit from an all-wheel drive with two electric motors and a Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system from the world of rallying according to the brand.

“The first three generations of Outlander have sold more than half a million units in Europe since its launch in 2003. The new Outlander will therefore be the 4th generation, and thanks to its technology and design, will allow the brand to establish its presence in Europe,” said Frank Krol, President of Mitsubishi Motors Europe.
