18 months after its electric van, Hiperon Motors does it again by offering us the Fosslin SUV. Its main feature is the choice between a battery or a fuel cell powered by hydrogen. The first prototypes are planned before the end of the year.
Although born in Malaysia, the Hiperon Fosslin takes its name from two Norwegian words: Foss (waterfall) and Lyn (lightning). The international side of the vehicle is confirmed in its design, signed in Poland by the One One Lab studio, and by its design carried out in the United States.
The result is a large SUV 4.88 m long and almost 2 m wide, with a sloping tailgate, in the “SUV Coupé” trend but with a rather clumsy general look. The front probably lacks expression. The rear seems more successful, but we can ask ourselves the question about access to the trunk: tailgate, or small sedan-style mailbox door? Access on board is through antagonistic doors. The renderings show us doors without a frame, and without a central upright… A layout that looks very concept, but not necessarily realistic in series. It should be noted that there is probably no search for consistency of style between the two projects of the brand: the Carrier van and the Fosslin SUV.

Inside, Hiperon shows a flat steering wheel in its upper part, but without being a “U” steering wheel. Obviously no instrumentation facing the driver, but a head-up display is present. In the center, the 17-inch OLED screen follows the shapes of the center console, and we can assume that the 3 circular controls are affixed to the screen. The air conditioning controls are remote on the doors for each occupant, which brings us back to the Renault Espace IV…

Fueling your car with hydrogen, a future danger for the planet?
Electric battery or hydrogen fuel cell
The main interest of the project lies in the choice of energy storage. We thus have the choice between a fuel cell with its hydrogen tanks, or a 95 kWh lithium-ion battery. In both cases, the motors are electric: 358 kW / 487 hp / 670 Nm and 4-wheel drive. Hiperon claims a 0 to 100 km/h in 5 seconds and a maximum speed of 260 km/h.
The start-up is only showing us 3D renderings for the moment, but promises 10 prototypes (5 with battery and 5 with fuel cell) put into service in test fleets before the end of the year, then the delivery of the production models in 2024 in Asia, Europe and North America. And in all this, what becomes of the van project? Hiperon announces that it will go into production in the third quarter of 2023. But here too only 3D renderings are available.
