The Paris police headquarters has given its agreement to the municipality regarding the pedestrianization project of the Champs-Elysées.
The Champs-Elysées redevelopment project, launched by Paris City Hall, has taken a new step. The police headquarters has indeed consented to the municipalityas to the realization of this project, the outlines of which were given several months ago, reports Challenges.
Thus, the Champs-Elysées district should evolve in the near future. Star’s Plaza, two out of seven lanes of car traffic will be eliminated. This is to widen the central perimeter of this square, reserved for pedestrians. This project also plans to pedestrianize Winston Churchill Avenue. The latter connects the Champs to the Cours-la-Reine.
Re-enchant the alley of the Champs-Elysées
Remember that the municipality has launched heavy work, planned over several years, to re-enchant the driveway. The first phase of this transformation has started on September 15.
This first stage will last until the 2024 Olympics, held in the city of Paris. It will be followed by a second stage of “complete redevelopment”, according to the town hall, following the Olympics. Motorists should not suffer too much from the work, at least until the end of the sporting event.
Automobile and pedestrian traffic on the rise in the area
This new project aims, again, to reduce the place of the car in the capital. This while car traffic is on the rise in the Champs-Elysées sector, with 45,000 daily passages, currently. Driving is already not easy, it remains to be seen what this project could lead to.
Pedestrian traffic is also up here. Thus, the Champs welcomed 200,000 pedestrian visitors per day in 2022. Either 10 to 15% more than in 2019.
