Porsche has been working since 2017 with Polyphony Digital, a Sony subsidiary and publisher of the Gran Turismo saga, for the integration of its production models into video games. For the arrival of the new Gran Turismo opus, the seventh since 1997, the two brands have put the small dishes in the big ones with a new concept.
Gran Turismo 7, which will be released on 4 mars 2022 on PS4 and PS5, will indeed integrate a virtual concept developed by the German manufacturer for the first time. Called Porsche Vision Gran Turismo, it follows the trend of other manufacturers such as Citroën, Mercedes, Volkswagen, Alpine, Mazda or Audi, which has taken its concept from virtual to real.
All the codes of a Porsche
The virtual study uses the brand’s codes as a wide rear light strip in 911 and Taycan style, or daytime running lights made up of four LED tips at the front, like the Taycan electric and most recent models in the range. The concept is also 100% electric. Very wide and low, the study has curved wings and a windshield that can be lifted on board. The electric motor, the exact power of which is not known, is placed behind the two seats, in the rear central position.
In the cabin, there is a compound of carbon and titanium to lighten the virtual concept according to the brand. Behind the steering wheel is a curved holographic screen to display driving information in stylized meters. Markus Auerbach, head of interior design at Porsche, says that “only materials of plant origin have been used” to improve sustainability and respect the environment. An astonishing remark since it is a concept for a racing video game, but perhaps it announces a passage from the virtual to the real?
