In Switzerland, an immigrant had his application for naturalization canceled due to a badly defrosted windshield. A story to say the least unusual!
We have all gone to work without having completely defrosted our windshield, some even going so far as to create a small hole, in order to see only what is happening in front of it. Besides being extremely dangerous, this is also completely illegal, and can be punished by law enforcement. The fine is nevertheless low, but a point withdrawal is however provided for by law. But generally, it stops there. Except for the unfortunate man we are talking about today, whose windshield cost him money… as well as his naturalization. This story dates back to 2019, but only emerges today, and proves the importance of properly defrosting your windshield.
A heavy penalty
In 2018, an emigrant of Cape Verdean origin started a request for naturalisation in Switzerland, after more than ten years of living in the country. As the case continues, he was arrested a year later by the police, due to a partially defrosted windshield. He was then fined 300 Swiss francs (approximately € 286), as well as a two-year suspension. A relatively heavy sentence, but it is not at the end of its surprises. Because the Secretary of State in charge of immigration then decides quite simply to suspend his application for naturalization. He underlines in fact that in order to have the right ” you must have an irreproachable criminal reputation “. A decision strongly contested by his lawyer, who considers that this offense has no relation to ” insufficient integration on his part hindering naturalization ».
For the time being, the Swiss authorities do not want to know anything, and specify that the man must wait for the end of his period of suspension, which will therefore arrive in the coming months.
