As the cold returns, you have to defrost your windshield again every morning. But what do we risk if we botch our work a little?
The night which falls at 5 pm, the fog, the rain and the cold, no doubt, we are in autumn. And as the weather continues to deteriorate, many motorists have to defrost their windshields again each morning before heading to work or taking children to school. Sometimes this step only takes a few seconds, when the ice is fine. But other days, it’s much more complicated, this one not really letting it go. And there, many of us are tempted to give up, or at least not to release our windshield in full. But is this authorized or do we risk, on the contrary, a sanction from the police? We take stock.
A hefty fine
You can imagine, ride with a badly defrosted windshield is very dangerous, and would be like driving with one hand in front of your eyes. You are sorely lacking in visibility, even if the vast majority of the ice has been removed. It only takes one place where there is still some left in order not to see an oncoming car or pedestrian and thus cause an accident. You will therefore not be surprised to learn that driving in this way is reprehensible by law. Last year, the Gendarmerie du Rhône had just published a reminder on its Facebook page, stating that driving with a badly cleared windshield is punishable by 90 € fine, as well as a withdrawal of three points on the driving license. In Switzerland, an immigrant even had his naturalization application refused for this reason!
It is therefore best to take a little more time in the morning, in order to avoid an accident which will make you lose even more, not to mention the penalty, which is very heavy. A word of advice, avoid the cardboard on the windshield, which can soften and stick if the night is humid, making things even more difficult when you wake up.
