The Prancing Horse SUV will finally materialize in the next few years. For the moment, the Ferrari Purosangue has just been surprised on the open road.
Ferrari Purosangue (2022) – Until now, the pre-production mules of the future Ferrari Purosangue SUV looked like a lowered version of the Maserati Levante. But for the past few weeks, the prototypes crossed by our scoop hunters finally have their final bodywork. However, the imposing camouflage covering the car does not yet allow us to clearly identify its design, but it is finally possible to apprehend the actual proportions of the FUV (Ferrari Utility Vehicle).
An elevated GTC4
Like the previous prototypes, it does not seem to have a significant ground clearance, which means that the Ferrari Purosangue will not be a traditional SUV. Although some might be tempted to see it as a direct competitor to Lamborghini Urus and Aston Martin DBX, the Italian stallion is an entirely different kind of vehicle. More akin to a large five-door roadster mounted on stilts, the Ferrari Purosangue will occupy a niche of its own, which the brand has already attempted to do with the all-wheel-drive FF and the GTC4 Lusso, but with less success.
Future # 1 in sales
Unlike the recently defunct Ferrari Thoroughbred Ferrari a much higher market share, even if it means eclipsing all the other Ferrari models in history in terms of sales, like the Lamborghini Urus which quickly became No. 1 in sales at Sant’Agata.
Electrification all the way
At least two versions of the powertrain are expected of the elevated GT, the former probably being one of, if not the last, iterations of a Atmospheric V12 in a Ferrari. As the car will be manufactured for several years with this engine, it is likely that it will have at least some form of electrification, such as a 48V mild hybrid system.
Still on electrification, the other powertrain will be a plug-in hybrid version, which should be equipped with a system similar to that of the 296 GTB. A hybrid or plug-in hybrid V8 is not to be ruled out either, especially since such a system already exists on the SF90 Stradale, although it is a mid-engine.
A new technical base
Developed on the basis of a whole new platform, eligible for full electrification, Rumor has it that the Ferrari Purosangue is likely to become the spearhead of a wide range of new zero-emission Ferrari models, no offense to brand purists.
Ferrari Thoroughbred Award
Marketed current 2022, the Ferrari Purosangue will happily surpass the 200 000 euros in base price.
