A few days after the presentation of the new Ford Ranger, Volkswagen unveils two illustrations of the future Amarok, now manufactured on the same basis.
Just days after the presentation of Ford’s new Ranger, Volkswagen is preparing the ground for the arrival of its new Amarok. The future model adopts the same basis as the American pickup thanks to an alliance between Ford and VW. The presentation of the new VW Amarok should be imminent, and we therefore discover two teaser images before the official reveal.
Same base but some aesthetic specificities
The German takes the technical base and the bodywork of the Ranger but stands out with a more horizontal front end, and quite close to the Touareg in particular. The wide grille is extended by LED headlights. VW has chosen to present its pickup in an adventurous format with a lot of mud (which cleverly hides the treatment of the front bumper), a green tint and a roof rack.
For now, VW says little about its future Amarok. The model offers an interior very close to the Ranger as seen in the illustration. Thus, he will be entitled to a large central touchscreen in portrait format, which is unusual for Volkswagen but used at Ford by several models. However, the brand immediately announces that the pickup will benefit from new driving aids and enhanced connectivity.
Production transferred to South Africa
Developed in Europe and Australia, the future Amarok will continue to be produced in Pacheco’s Argentinian plant, but abandon production on the lines in Hanover, Germany. This is transferred to the same channels as its American cousin, in South Africa. The pick-up will be launched in certain countries from 2022 (the most popular markets for pick-ups such as America or South Africa), before being subsequently marketed in the rest of the world. For Europe, the marketing of the new Amarok must coincide with that of the Ranger, scheduled for the end of 2022.
