You dreamed about it, he did it: a man from Le Mans (Sarthe) transformed its Peugeot 605 sedan into a convertible, simply by cutting out the roof. An astonishing artisanal transformation, reminiscent of a little-known Heuliez project in the 1990s. But it does not seem to the liking of the Sarthe National Police who recounted the meeting on on the Facebook page.
A very artisanal transformation
Friday, December 3, the police were carrying out a road check in the city of Le Mans when they discovered this unique convertible. The man was driving with the roof open despite the rain, the transformation not seeming to be planned to cover the passenger compartment with a canvas … The owner seemed surprised by the control since his vehicle was according to him “in order, perfectly insured and [doté d’un] technical control compliant ”, as explained by the National Police. After a blood alcohol test, which turned out negative, the man finally confessed … that he had simply forgotten to inform his insurance of the transformation!
Obviously, the police indicate that the change from a sedan to a convertible renders the vehicle unusable because it does not comply. Indeed, the seat belts were also cut when cutting the roof. We dare to imagine the low rigidity of the vehicle (and in particular the doors!) Since a convertible generally requires many reinforcements and roll bars. Looking at the photo, we also observe that some elements hold with gray tape! Thus, the vehicle was immediately impounded at the end of the check and will be quickly destroyed.
