Often put to the test in winter, windshield wipers require special attention. Find out how to defrost them and especially protect them.
We’ve all got up in the morning and found our windshields totally frozen, our wipers stuck in frost or sometimes covered in snow. And there, for many, the first instinct is to shoot them, or to try to activate them. Spoiler: don’t do that. There are techniques, admittedly a little longer, but more effective and less risky. We invite you to discover them, as well as our tips to prevent frost from forming on it again!
To take them off without danger
We forget the following techniques to take off wipers caught in the frost: shoot at them with all your might, activate them by force or throw boiling water on them. The first two methods may damage their small engine, while the second may crack the windshield. Instead, the vehicle is simply allowed to warm up for a few minutes, in order to melt the ice gently. If you’re in a hurry, a little de-icer will do the trick too!
To avoid freezing: an unstoppable technique
In order to prevent the formation of gel on your wipers, and to prevent them from sticking to the windshield, there is a foolproof method, which has been proven over decades. You just need to peel them off. It is also recommended to brush the brushes with alcohol, in order to avoid the formation of ice. Be careful though, as this can also lead to premature deterioration of the plastic.
Choose a cover
The best thing to do, if you cannot park your car in a safe place, is still to opt for a protective cover, which will then prevent frost from forming on your windshield. All you have to do is place the wipers on top, and you’re ready to go. On the other hand, we avoid using a piece of cardboard, which then risks getting stuck in the event of extreme cold, reducing all your efforts to nothing.
