Ecological penalties, radars, toll prices… the year 2022 promises to be rich in new measures. Find out what to expect in the coming months.
Weight penalty
On January 1, the weight penalty, voted a few months ago, will come into force. This will then concern all cars over 1,800 kilos, which will therefore have to pay a tax of € 10 per additional kilo. Cumulative with the ecological penalty, already in force for several years, this new measure will have an identical ceiling, set at € 40,000 in 2022. plug-in hybrids as well as electric vehicles will be exempt, while large families will be able to benefit from a reduction from the 3rd child, under certain conditions.
Ecological penalty scale
Like every year, the scale of the ecological penalty will also be reviewed, and will become even more severe. The trigger threshold will in fact drop from 133 to 128 g / km, while the ceiling will now be set at € 40,000, against 30,000 in 2020. This will then be reached from 244 g / km, but will be capped. at 50% of the price of the vehicles concerned.
Ecological bonus
If the government therefore wants to dissuade motorists from buying thermal vehicles, he nevertheless wishes to reduce the incentives for the purchase of thermal models. As a result, the ecological bonus will drop to € 5,000 in July, and will therefore remain at € 6,000 on January 1, contrary to what was initially planned. Aid will remain at € 1,000 for the purchase of a plug-in hybrid vehicle, before being withdrawn next summer.
Noise reduction radars
2022 will also be the year of the first verbalizations for the noisiest vehicles. Already installed in eight cities such as Toulouse, Nice, Rueil-Malmaison or even Saint-Forget, in the Chevreuse valley, anti-noise radars will indeed begin to issue fines from January 1. The goal ? Fight against noise pollution, which would represent, according to a study carried out by the Ecological Transition Agency, more than 156 billion euros per year. The amount of the fines has not yet been announced, while the government is working on the creation of a decree making it possible to precisely define the authorized thresholds, as well as the penalties.
Private radar cars throughout France
If they are already circulating in eight regions, private radar cars will soon invade all of France, since the government plans to make them circulate throughout the country in 2022. Île-de-France, Occitanie, l ‘Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur will therefore be concerned, unlike overseas and Corsica. The first sanctions should, however, fall in the course of the year 2023, while tests will first be carried out before starting the fines.
Toll prices
As every year, the price of tolls will rise again on February 1, or even literally blaze. We can indeed expect an increase of 2% on average, against 0.41% in 2021. Several reasons explain this increase, and in particular inflation, of which companies can indeed pass 70% on the price of tolls. In addition, it will also be necessary to compensate for the 2015 tariff freeze, which will result in an additional increase. On the other hand, the Motorway Investment Plan will no longer have an impact, the related expenses having been offset by the increases between 2019 and 2021.
Rising car prices
Be careful if you have planned to offer yourself a new car in 2022, because prices are expected to rise sharply. Blame it on the shortage of semiconductors, among other things, which then forces manufacturers to reduce the production rate. But that’s not all, because the emission and safety standards imposed by the European Union should also affect the prices of vehicles, whether thermal or electrified. This trend is all the stronger as there are more and more zero-emission cars, and much more expensive than their internal combustion equivalents.
Limiter compulsory in new cars
From July 2022, all new models will have to be equipped with an Intelligent Speed Adaptation System (AIV), which is none other than a limiter improved. Concretely, the vehicle will be able to read the signs and send visual and audible alerts if the driver exceeds the maximum speed. If it ignores them, the car will then be able to decelerate on its own. However, it will still be possible to deactivate this device, which will also be mandatory on all new cars from 2024.
