In Paris, clandestine taxis in the sights of the authorities

In Paris, illegal taxis were checked at Roissy and Orly airports this Friday, May 19. Offenses related to these bogus taxis are on the rise.

Friday, May 19, the Boers, the police unit specializing in the control of passenger transport, invested the airports of Roissy and Orly in Paris. For the occasion, they sought to control Parisian taxis. And especially to unearth the illegals or those not respecting the rules.

A major challenge, while the number of offenses related to clandestine taxis in the capital is rising. Since the beginning of 2023, there have already been 350. In 2022, 1 200 infractions linked to clandestine taxis have thus been identified. The number was only 860 in 2021, which represents 39% less. Commissioner Jean-Sébastien Rosadonni, who was in charge of the operation carried out in the airports, explains to the Parisian :

“This type of operation is also used to shake up the networks. We pay particular attention to repeat offenders in the context of long-term criminal investigations. “In 2020, we noted a 30% increase in the number of illegal taxi-related offences, which shows our commitment. »

Other operations carried out before the Olympics

These checks are organized before the Olympic Games. The image of the capital is at stake, according to Laurent Nuñez, prefect of police of Paris. Reason for which other operations of the kind are also organized.

In recent weeks, tourist buses have been in the sights of the authorities. This Tuesday, April 25, the municipality and the police headquarters launched a control operation in the 18th arrondissement. The Parisian authorities were attacking badly parked tourist coaches near the city’s monuments. If there are no tourists on board, a badly parked coach driver may receive a fine of 135 euros.

A situation that did not fail to make the bus drivers react. Some even went so far as to wonder if they shouldn’t continue to spin around in empty circles, while their customers visit the monument. The idea behind this operation was also to encourage other types of mobility.
