The department of Ain invests 2.5 million euros per year to finance 1,302 cars, including 172 fully electric, for home help.
The department of Ain invests massively in home help. The authorities of the latter decided to finance 1,302 cars for these personnel. It is mostly about Renault Clio and 172 100% electric Dacia Spring. All for a budget of 2.5 million euros per year. All vehicle maintenance, insurance and fuel costs are included in the monthly rental of these cars.
The aim is in particular to help the personnel of the home help and support services (SAAD) to coping with rising fuel prices. This while the reimbursement of mileage allowances is of little interest and that the support needs for the elderly are growing.
A work contract in exchange for a car
To benefit from these vehicles, the 1,302 workers will have to justify an employment contract of at least 104 hours per month. Which represents 24 hours a week. This novelty could also push some personnel to increase their working hours. This is what Martine Tabouret, vice-president of the department of Ain, delegate for medical demography and autonomy, hopes:
“Today, due to a lack of sufficient staff or mobility difficulties, the six SAADs do not work the scheduled hours (…) We are convinced that mobility is a lever for developing the attractiveness of the professions of home workers. Revaluing, initially, mileage allowances, then participating in the financing of a car fleet, intended for home workers, should be able to encourage some people to embark on this highly essential profession. »
The lessor Arval, subsidiary of BNP Paribas, was selected for this operation. As of May 15, 2023, 150 cars have already been delivered to three services of SAAD. This is only the beginning, since deliveries will continue until the end of 2023.
