Candela, a Swedish manufacturer of electric boats, unveils in collaboration with Polestar, another Swedish specialist in electric cars, a reissue of its famous hydrofoil, the C-8. This iconic Candela boat is known for flying above the water thanks to its foils which lift the hull and give the impression of taking off.
It is called the “Candela C-8 Polestar Edition”. This new machine of exceptional purity was made with the same carbon fiber shell as the pre-existing Candela C-8. However, the new edition designed in collaboration with Polestar brings a touch of Scandinavian luxury and shows that electrification is growing, both on land and in open water.
With the Candela C-8 Polestar Edition, the two Swedish firms push the luxury slider to its maximum with a very elegant gray on the outside and a design reinforced by the use of a unique textile everywhere inside: seats to cushions, sunbeds to wall and roof panels.
As is the case with the original model, the Polestar Edition is equipped with foils that give the pilot the impression of taking off and flying over the water. For Gustav Hasselskog, CEO and Founder of Candela, “ aesthetic excellence is an intrinsic value of our brand, but it can also be a powerful driver for a sustainable future ».

According to Maximilian Missoni, Head of Design at Polestar, “ Candela’s hydrofoil technology is a paradigm shift for the industry”. According to him, the sensations are similar to those felt by a driver switching from a thermal car to an electric one: “you immediately feel that this is the future as the boat takes off ».
The two companies had already announced a partnership whose objective was to introduce the 69 kWh electric car batteries used on Polestar vehicles, into Candela’s electric boats. The Candela C-8 (not just the Polestar edition) has a range of 106 km on a single charge at a speed of 22 knots and recharging takes only 2.5 hours on a three-phase socket.
It is the foils that allow the boat to reach such capacities. Indeed, as the hull is completely out of the water, energy consumption is drastically reduced. It’s simple, today Candela’s C-8 uses about 80% less energy than conventional boats. Deliveries are due to begin in June 2024.
