An agreement between Tesla and Ford will give access to the network of North American Superchargers to electric vehicles at the blue oval. And future models will adopt Tesla’s charging socket format.
Tesla is gradually opening up its network of Superchargers to vehicles from other brands. After Europe and China, it is the turn of North America. But in this region, few Superchargers are equipped with cables compatible with Combo CCS sockets used by other manufacturers. This necessarily limits the scope of this progressive opening of the network.
Ford therefore strikes a blow by announcing an agreement with Tesla, which will allow access to the complete network of more than 12,000 Superchargers in the United States and Canada. Owners of F150 Lightning, Mustang Mach E or e-Transit will be able to acquire an adapter to connect to the entire network.

But Ford goes even further. From 2025, its new electric models will be equipped as standard with a charging socket compatible with the Tesla connector format. A format that the manufacturer is seeking to transform into a standard under the name NACS (North American Charging Standard), as opposed to CCS (Combined Charging System).
A few months ago, Aptera confirmed the adoption of NACS. But the announcement made by Ford is of a completely different scope… In return, the Fords will have to use an adapter to load on the network equipped with CCS.
This announcement currently only affects models sold in North America. In Europe, Ford is expected to stick with CCS.
