The centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans will be celebrated with dignity by Toyota which, among many events, will lift the veil on an exceptional Prius.
We first believed in the revelation of a road version of the Toyota GR010 hypercar when we discovered the enigmatic teaser posted by the Japanese firm on social networks, at the end of May. Beneath the half-open sliding curtain of a box stamped Gazoo Racing eight LED optics light up within a shield that is ultimately no stranger to us. We distinguish in particular the lower lip of the thin original Prius grille, as well as the tow hook caps.
A more legitimate Prius than in the past
Thus, the placid Toyota Prius, unaccustomed to this kind of fantasy, will experience the joys of preparation from the expert hands of the Gazoo Racing department, for the first time. If it is true that its character lends itself to it, we must not forget that the latest opus has almost doubled the power level of its predecessor, from 122 hp to 225 hp. What’s more, it displays a line as elegant as it is racy, a thousand miles from the convoluted silhouettes that have followed one another since 1998. However, to stand out from the “mainstream” range, this Prius GR will sport a specific buckle pierced with an entrance oversized air vents, as well as air deflectors at each end, in addition to specific features to discover on D-Day.
Exclusively in the state of study
No information has leaked, for the moment, as to the block that will animate the Toyota Prius GR. Logically, it will highlight an environmentally friendly design that could be embodied by internal hydrogen combustion. There is no doubt, however, that this model will remain in the concept car state. He will take part in an exhibition on the theme of a carbon-neutral society organized by the Japan Tourism Board, in collaboration with Mazda.
