[EN VIDÉO] Interview: why build humanoid robots?
The android is arguably the most mechanically complex type of robot. Futura-Sciences interviewed Jean-Claude Heudin, director of the research laboratory of the IIM (Internet and Multimedia Institute) in order to understand why he embodies the pinnacle of robotics.

Fortunately, his skin is gray and it covers only his hands and his face, so much does he have the expressions of a human. Ameca is a humanoid robot as impressive as‘worrying from realism. Aside from series like WestWorld or in the cinema, it seems clear that there has never been a humanoid robot as successful as Ameca.

In a video posted by its British designer Engineered Arts, the robot can be seen waking up and in amazement discovering its own body. His gestures and facial expressions are perfectly fluid.

A robot devoid of AI

Under this synthetic skin, we imagine an armada of mechanical elements, sensors and actuators. If the robot is really impressive realism, its designers explain that it is totally incapable of improvising. It is a programmable logic controller and there is not even a embryo d’artificial intelligence in his brain cavity. According to the firm, however, it would be possible to speak through the robot remotely. It would then be a sort of robotic avatar.

As the name of its designer suggests, it is more in the fields of art that the robot should be used as a “puppet”. The firm is also not at its first attempt since in 2013, it had already unveiled a humanoid robot, admittedly less realistic, which bore the name of RoboThespian, which means “robot actor”.
