What are the precautions to take when washing your car in winter?

If it is essential to wash your car in winter, some precautions must be taken in order not to damage your car.

Sometimes it’s tempting not to wash your car in winter, because it’s cold and it’ll get dirty again quickly anyway. Except that washing is essential, and especially during this period, in particular because of the salt deposited on the tracks. But do you need to take special precautions? What are the specifics of this season regarding thecar maintenance ?

Avoid the extreme cold

While it is quite possible to wash your car in any condition, avoid doing it when the temperature drops below -10 °. Already, it will be difficult to find an open station, most of them closing their doors when it is too cold, in order to prevent the pipes from freezing. In addition, the wash water is sometimes slightly lukewarm, which can cause thermal shock and damage the body or the windshield of your vehicle.

Don’t forget the chassis

Particularly put to the test in winter, due to the salt which settles there, the frame must be the subject of special attention during this period, in order to avoid the risk of corrosion. So take care to carefully clean the latter, insisting with the high-pressure jet. If you are using the rollers, be sure to choose a program that includes the chassis wash.

Do not neglect the prewash

If you prefer to wash your car with a brush, do not forget the step of pre-wash, in order to prepare the body. Indeed, without it, you would risk scratching it due to the many impurities that settle there in winter, such as mud or salt, which act like sandpaper. A little bit of spray should be enough to avoid the risks!
